Late surrender rule is applicable in most casino houses offering a Spanish 21 game whereby a player receives half the amount of his bet back if he quits the game. This rule comes into play even if the dealer does not have a blackjack hand. If a player surrenders after he has opted for doubling down, the situation is variously known as forfeit or double down rescue or concede. If a player thus concedes, he forfeits the amount of the bet he had staked as the doubling down wager and recovers the original bet. A situation in a Spanish 21 game arises when the dealer’s face up card is an ace or a face (jack or queen or king) card and the stage of the game is when only the initial two cards have been dealt to all. In this case the dealer can see his hole card without revealing it to the participating players and if he has hit a blackjack, anyone who cannot match his natural hand loses by default.

Among other rules and regulations that govern a game of Spanish 21 one stipulation allows any player to opt for doubling down on any hand value total and this choice is open even when he has decided to hit and draw additional card(s). Some casino houses limit the number of times a player can redouble and he can only do so twice after the initial doubling down. An illustration can explain this point. This is because that redoubling has the profound advantage of reducing house edge considerably. So if a six card deck blackjack game is being played where the dealer hits at soft 17, if redoubling is permitted it gives a low advantage to the casino at approximately 0.42% which would increase to 0.78% in favor of the house if redoubling is disallowed.

A game of Spanish 21 is the same as the regular blackjack regarding payout rules whereby the player holding a blackjack hand is entitled for 3:2 winning odds on his bet but the difference lies in that while in the regular game, a dealer also holding a blackjack will mean a tie or push, in case of the game variant the player wins the bet at 3-to-1 odds irrespective of the dealer’s hand having a blackjack.

An important rule of the Spanish 21 game is that the insurance bet offered to the player is 2:1 odds just like the normal blackjack game although in this case, the card deck has four numbers of ten-valued cards lesser with stripping of the 10 card. So with only 12 possible ten-valued cards that can allow the dealer, with the ace card as his up card, to hit a blackjack the chances of this situation from occurring is 25%. It is evident that for the insurance to be an even money bet for the player the odds should be 3:1 instead of the standard 2:1 as in regular blackjack. Therefore, the insurance bet in a Spanish 21 game is a wager with significantly weak advantage for the players while making it profitable for the casino houses.

The rules regarding hitting, standing and splitting pairs as possible choices of action for the players are same as the regular blackjack game. Doubling after splitting is also commonly allowed for all cards received by the player as his second and/or subsequent cards following the split. However, splitting is only allowed for a maximum of three times, so a gambler can only play four hands at most simultaneously. Such re-splitting rules are applicable to all ranks, including the ace cards. Some casinos allow drawing of as many additional cards as the player intends after splitting his ace pair. However in some exceptional cases a casino house may prohibit drawing of extra cards if a player opts for splitting his pair of ace cards.

A very popular game variation of the regular blackjack played extensively in the United States is the game called Spanish 21 and if played in an unlicensed manner, the name of that version is often changed to Spanish Blackjack.

One of the fist and foremost things to note about Spanish 21 is that it is played on a standard game table that is used in the regular blackjack game. Four, five, six or eight card decks are used in play and the dealing is done either from a shoe or via a continuous shuffling machine. It is to be noted that a game of Spanish 21 is played with a card deck containing 48 cards with the four 10 cards stripped from a standard 52-card deck. The values assigned to the cards are same as in a regular version of blackjack game.

While the players receive two hole cards, the dealer of the Spanish 21 game receives one hole card. The regulation regarding the dealer hitting or standing varies. While most casino houses require the dealer to hit when his hand value is a soft 17, some casinos dealers stand when their hand strength aggregates a soft 17. The second situation, when allowed, diminishes the hand value that the dealer may hold as his final total on an average and also prevents his chances of getting busted. Since the dealer’s unbusted hand total is lower if he stands at soft 17 than if he hits, this is advantageous play for the participants. This is translated as a lower house edge for the casino. So, if a six-card deck Spanish 21 game is being played then for the dealer hitting at soft 17, the house advantage is approximately 0.78% whereas in case he stands at soft 17, the house edge is lower at about 0.37%.

A recent addition to the variations list of the regular blackjack game is the game of Elimination Blackjack which is played according to a tournament format. The popularity of the game has reached a high pitch following the immense success and popularity of tournament poker where every year innumerable participants flock o compete and vie for the top prize. While, Elimination Blackjack is a popular game in many casino houses it is mainly played in the Ultimate Blackjack Tour. The gameplay has a combination of the rules of blackjack and a no limit game of the community card poker game of Texas Hold ‘Em. The increasing popularity if this form of the blackjack game has also made it a major gambling game being offered by the online casinos.

A round of an Elimination Blackjack game is usually played for 30 hands. Since it is a tournament game, the initial amount of chips that a participants player has in his disposal is quite high and how much amount he can start with depends on which organization is hosting the Elimination Blackjack game. So, a player may have at least $10,000 worth of playing chips and the amount can go up to as high as $100,000 per player.

The rules of gameplay of Elimination Blackjack follow the general blackjack regulations with emphasis on certain points. So the casino house offering the game requires the dealer to hit and draw additional card if his hand value is a soft 17 or lesser and he must stand and lock his hand value if his total is a hard 17 or more than that. Moreover, all players are allowed to continue splitting pairs for a maximum of four times, except in the case of aces. One of the most basic conditions of the Elimination Blackjack game is that a shoe is used and six card decks are employed in play.

The game of blackjack is an extremely popular game among gamblers frequenting the casino houses and its widespread acceptance has led to the rise of some variations in play, regarding rules and regulations, besides adding some more excitement and fun to an already absorbing game.

Extremely popular in the casinos of Atlantic City is the game of Double Attack Blackjack which is a further variation of the game of Spanish 21, which in turn is a variant of regular blackjack. The game offers a payout of even money to the bettors in the event of their holding a blackjack and allows them the option to double their original bet amount after viewing the dealer’s face up card.

A significant feature of this game variant is a side bet, called ‘Bust it’ where the wager is laid on whether the dealer’s hand will bust if he hits and draws a third card. The money must be staked for the side bet before the dealer receives his up card and the payout varies depending on what is the rank of the third card received by the dealer. If the dealer’s hand does not get busted, he collects the bet.

So if the dealer gets busted and his third card is either a ten-valued card or a 9 or a 8 or a 7 or a 6, the payout won by the player is respectively 3-to-1 or 6-to-1 or 8-to-1 or 10-to-1 or 15-to-1. So, by betting $10, the player can win $30 if the dealer has a ten-valued card, $60 if he has a 9, $80 for his 6, $100 for his 7 and $150 if his third card is a 6. Another bonus payout depends on the color and suit of the 8 card. So, if the dealer’s 8 is the same color, instead of the usual $80 the player will win $500 (= 50:1 odds) and for the same suit the payout is $2000 (= 200:1 odds).
