Blackjack game variants VII – details: Double Attack Blackjack

The game of blackjack is an extremely popular game among gamblers frequenting the casino houses and its widespread acceptance has led to the rise of some variations in play, regarding rules and regulations, besides adding some more excitement and fun to an already absorbing game.

Extremely popular in the casinos of Atlantic City is the game of Double Attack Blackjack which is a further variation of the game of Spanish 21, which in turn is a variant of regular blackjack. The game offers a payout of even money to the bettors in the event of their holding a blackjack and allows them the option to double their original bet amount after viewing the dealer’s face up card.

A significant feature of this game variant is a side bet, called ‘Bust it’ where the wager is laid on whether the dealer’s hand will bust if he hits and draws a third card. The money must be staked for the side bet before the dealer receives his up card and the payout varies depending on what is the rank of the third card received by the dealer. If the dealer’s hand does not get busted, he collects the bet.

So if the dealer gets busted and his third card is either a ten-valued card or a 9 or a 8 or a 7 or a 6, the payout won by the player is respectively 3-to-1 or 6-to-1 or 8-to-1 or 10-to-1 or 15-to-1. So, by betting $10, the player can win $30 if the dealer has a ten-valued card, $60 if he has a 9, $80 for his 6, $100 for his 7 and $150 if his third card is a 6. Another bonus payout depends on the color and suit of the 8 card. So, if the dealer’s 8 is the same color, instead of the usual $80 the player will win $500 (= 50:1 odds) and for the same suit the payout is $2000 (= 200:1 odds).
